When a prescription cannot be filled for whatever reason, the pharmacy staff will contact your doctor by phone or fax to seek a new prescription. For all inquiries, the majority of doctor’s offices ask for one or two business days. If a patient runs out of medication, the pharmacist may decide to lend them enough to last until their doctor authorizes another prescription.
